Events in collaboration with The Ecologist Cowboy: ecology on an organic farm, native wild food, and community gathering at The Lavra venue (limited events to small groups, while distancing outside during Covid-19).
As a PDC (Permaculture Design Course) and permaculture workshop venue, the sustainable farm is equipped with experimental gardens utilizing hugelkulture, swales, natural building, aquaponics, and perennial planting with a budding forest garden. For future courses, we plan to develop a pond habitat, rotate pasture for mini-sheep in the vineyard, and continue planting and maintaining the agricultural forest garden and native forest garden.
The Food Lab
The Food Lab is our motto in the kitchen by learning ways to reduce our environmental footprint through food. As we wipe out usable soil, deforest, and have reduced space for greater populations, we must look for alternatives. A question that we have is “why is agriculture separate from restoration work? How can we combine the two? How did people eat before industrial agriculture?” We want to learn with you as we explore the benefits of eating from permanent perennial landscapes and wild foods through cuisine.
Weddings (coming soon)
The Lavra is also preparing as an event venue integrated into nature for a scenic and open space for weddings. Fully-equipped with a cob pizza oven, kitchen, and guest rooms for select guests, the property has a beautiful outdoor eating and ceremony space immersed in an eco-village with indoor space for presentations and dancing as well.
